We Stand
This work of art comes from Amplifier. org, a nonprofit website that helps build art and media to amplify movements. These works are downloadable which is great for educational use and really do cover a wide range of movements occurring across the US and the world from economics to sustainability to Black Lives Matter.
This piece, titled "We Stand," is bold and only uses a few colors in the design. It was created to celebrate Indigenous People's Day 2020. The rest of the pieces in this collection capture the emotions of November in 2020 so succinctly. It depicts many representations of indigenous persons along with their struggles and successes. The caption for this work of art explains the movement and piece. "For Indigenous Peoples’ Day 2020, Amplifier, Nia Tero and IllumiNative teamed up to launch a new large-scale public art campaign to elevate Indigenous land stewardship! It also celebrates the vital relationship between Indigenous sovereignty and Black liberation, particularly as our globe passes through multiple material crises of our own making and the November elections are top of mind." This piece represents indigenous people of color with the slogan "We stand taller than any wall they could build." For me, this slogan directly speaks to the politics surrounding immigrants at the border between Mexico and the United States and how people who are searching for safety and stability are being treated. It feels like a call to unite people of color in their fights and struggles against laws that work to alienate them.
