How might different people interpret this message differently than me?

I am a white woman, the first individuals that I believe would interpret this message with a different perspective than me would be young children of color. This book is important to us all, and books that encourage inclusivity are crucial for all readers. That being said students seeing representation of themselves is formative in their lives. This story is their story.

What viewpoints or world views are included or left out of this message?

The view point included in this story is self love of a black girl. The view point that she has something to love about her beautiful hair supports the viewpoint that diverse hair is to be valued by society.
