Major Announcement: Met Gala 2023 Theme
During my daily scrolling on the interwebs, I came across the trending topic of #metgala in my Twitter feed. While my interest in fashion is not exclusive, I enjoy watching the Red Carpet arrivals of many of my favorite celebrities trying to impress the viewers with something that pertains to the selected theme. I researched more information about the gala. The article for this post is below for reference:
- Who created this message?
Skyler Caruso, an editorial assistant with PEOPLE Digital, is the author of the post. PEOPLE Magazine created this post who is associated with the Dotdash Meredith Publishing Family, which markets itself as the "largest digital and print publisher." They claim to give you three essential things: "The brands you love. The experiences you want. The answers you need." That said, PEOPLE prides itself on being the most "trustworthy" celebrity gossip and news magazine.
- What creative techniques are used to attract my attention?
Creative techniques include viral and celebrated images from past Met Galas, short, consise text for the busy readers of PEOPLE, and actually really sufficient answers to the yearly FAQs about the Met Gala. One thing to consider is that my attention was already given to this post because I personally wanted more information about the Met Gala. In terms of the passing viewer of this post, its most creative technique was making the header one of Rihanna's prized costumes for the 2018 Met Gala.
- How might different people interpret this message differently than me?
The message in this post is twofold: 1) answer the necessary FAQs about the Met Gala for people to watch and tune in and 2) create a buzz for it among the general public to make sure views, clicks, tweets, and gossip flow freely once the event occurs. I personally do not mind the obsession with pop culture, so posts and media pertaining to celebrity centered gossip and news do not bother me. I would like to attend the Met Gala one day as well, so it's nice for me to daydream for a minute or so about what could be. I would imagine those not interested in celebrity culture would find this post to be useless. Others may be reminded of their inherently different circumstances between those that are able to attend the Met Gala versus those that attend in their dreams like me.
- What viewpoints or world views are included or left out of this message?
The clear viewpoints left out are people of the general public who can't bring their artistry of theme to this exclusive gala. It also excludes those that cannot afford such luxury brands, particularly those spotlighted by this year's theme, "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty," where Lagerfeld worked for and helped to design clothes for Chanel, Fendi, and Balmain just to name a few.
- Why is this message being sent?
This message is being sent for informative and persuasive purposes equally. They answered the essential questions viewers and interested people would want to know about the event. But, more importantly, such posts create a buzz and excitement for the Red Carpet portion of the event, which require viewers to indulge in the celebrities' looks through tweets, gossip, hate, and admiration about what they're witnessing. If the intention was to hook me, it worked and I will definitely be watching for highlights of the Met Gala when it happens in May.
