Hair Care Flair
Who created this message? All of the ads that have popped in my feeds for the L'ange Le Volume have not specifically come from the company but have come from influencers who have tested the product. I have learned that even though there is an actual company behind these ads that I have never seen an actual ad from them. Not that this is a bad thing, because I feel that tutorials/test videos draw my attention more and make me want to buy the product.
What creative techniques are used to attract my attention? In all honesty this is a product that I have been looking in to for months, but was not convinced that I wanted to ever pay the price that was listed. Over the last few weeks these videos have been paired with a 60% off sale as well as a special discount for new customers. This was definitely the way to get my attention as well as the big bolded letters saying 60 percent off anniversary sale. Because of this, I did in fact order the product and now I see the ads even more then I did before.
How might different people understand this message differently than me? I think of my mother-in-law and one how me sharing the link for this product has affected her social media feeds. She was here this last week and couldn't believe how easy it was to use and how nice it made our hair look so she asked for the link. Not only was she getting the 60% off but she was also getting a coupon code that I was able to share with friends and family. With all of that being said I am not sure that she would have ever looked at the ads if they had popped up on her feed beforehand. Most of the reviews are done by women that are my age or younger, I have not seen any with women of older age showing how it works in their hair, which in all honesty I am not sure that I see many older women doing these type of reviews. I feel that if I was my mother-in-law that I would not look at the ad because I feel that it is not directed towards me at all.
What values, lifestyles and points of view are represented in, or omitted from, this message? I have noticed in the reviews/ads that I have not seen any women of color. These ads seemed to target women who have moderately curly to straight hair. I do not know enough about the product or hair care to know whether or not this type of product could be harmful to someone with extremely curly hair and that is not to say that all women of color have curly hair. After many searches through social media and YouTube I have not seen a variety of ethnicities in their ads.
Why is this message being sent? I feel that this message is being sent simply to sell products to women who are trying to make a change to their haircare routines by showing how simple their products are to use.
