Dailylook

Dailylook

Dailylook is a subscription box that assigns you a “personal stylist” who puts together boxes of clothes to mail to you. Once you receive the box you can buy the things you like and return the things you don’t.

Who created this message?

This ad was created by Dailylook to promote their fashion subscription box.

What creative techniques are used to attract my attention?

There is a bullet list of reasons why you should try Dailylook (I’m a sucker for lists instead of a wall of text). It says it is the #1 highest rated personal styling service. The video portion of the ad shows someone (presumably a personal stylist) putting fashionable clothes folded neatly into a box. I’m moderately interested in clothes, I like finding nice pieces that I can add to my wardrobe - but I don’t like shopping so this ad really hit home for me. Most of the clothes shown in the video are clothes that I thought were really cute and would love to be able to find.

How might different people interpret this message differently than me?

People who aren’t interested in fashion would probably not be into this ad. All of the clothes shown are very feminine, so people who prefer to not dress feminine would also not be interested in this ad. The fact that there is no price shared, or even a general price point of the garments they choose, shows me that it may be one of those things where “if you have to ask the price, it’s too expensive for you”.

What viewpoints or world views are included or left out of this message?

The clothing seems to be pretty high end/name brand - so people who are lower-middle class may be excluded from this service. Having a personal stylist and name brand clothing is pretty luxurious. Also, the clothing is made for women. I don’t see any options for men’s clothing so men are left out of this message.

Why is this message being sent?

This message is being sent to sell more subscription boxes. They advertise it in such a way to pander to women who want to look nice but don’t have the time to shop. Leave it to your “personal stylist” to take care of all of that, all you have to do is try them on and send back the ones you didn’t like!
