FOMO is Fyre!

FOMO is Fyre!

Who created this message?

This message was created by the FTX, a now bankrupt company that once operated a cryptocurrency exchange and crypto hedge fund. They aired this during the Superbowl which is a notoriously expensive time to air but also sure to attract a lot of viewers in the US.

What creative techniques are used to attract my attention?

They go through history in a comical way where Larry David plays a naysayer who is always poo pooing the next big thing. They got Larry David to help create a sense of FOMO for cryptocurrencies and NFTs as they are being sold as the next big thing.

How might different people interpret this message differently than me?

People who have not already purchased cryptocurrencies may want to get onto the bandwagon and hope that they are at least part of the early majority in adopting this technology or in the case of FTX, the exchanges or hedge funds that deal with cryptocurrency. They will conflate the institutions with the actual cryptocurrencies. Those who know very little about cryptocurrencies would see this Superbowl ad as a sign of legitimacy of the institution and the relative size/market capitalization of the business thus drawing them in.

What viewpoints or world views are included or left out of this message?

The viewpoints left out of this message are those of actual naysayers who have serious concerns about the industry and crypto are left out. These people are dismissed as Larry David is in the commercial. The world views of those without access to technology or hard metal advocates are not addressed either.

Why is this message being sent?

This message is being sent because they wanted to get a lot of US American people's money through maximum exposure and with FOMO and Larry David.
