Creepy Crawlers Creations

Creepy Crawlers Creations

Who created this message?

This message was created by ToyMax. The creepy crawlers toy creation concept has actually been around since the 1960's when originally created by Mattel. As time went on, safety standards were put in place and the toy evolved and lasted the test of time with many improvements while keeping the original concept.

What creative techniques are used to attract my attention?

The fast paced, catchy song attracted my attention along with all the flashing lights and demonstration of making the cool colorful bugs. It was a quick commercial, but got the point across that it was a fun toy that you could customize your creations and use for further fun to annoy the people around you.

How might different people interpret this message differently than me?

In viewing this commercial and advertisement, others may see it as a young boys toy that is silly and immature. I remember that when I saw this advertisement I didn't care that it was a boys toy and saw it as a fun toy that was geared towards my tomboy personality and love for science and creating things. Instead of an Easy Bake Oven, I wanted to play around and experiment with the different colors to make cool bugs that I could play with and try to prank my brother with.

What viewpoints or world views are included or left out of this message?

Diversity is left out of this message. It appears to be directed towards white boys, as there is no other diversity or genders represented in this commercial. The people owning and playing with the toy were young white boys and it advertised as them making creepy bugs to scare their sisters, moms, and dads with.

Why is this message being sent?

I believe this message was being sent primarily for the toy company to make money. It was important for the new company ToyMax to bring back the proven functionality of the original toy while adhering to new safety standards. By doing this, hopefully parents who grew up in the 60's would recognize the toy and want to buy it for their own kids to enjoy as well.
